Benzoyl Peroxide is an integral part of any acne treatment program. BP is a powerful oxidant which diffuses into the skin and has the ability to kill the bacteria that aggravates the acne problem. BP is also used to exfoliate the buildup of excess skin deep in the follicles, suppresses irritating fatty acids, and loosens impactions - which all aid in controlling acne. Benzoyl Peroxide's action is similar to pouring hydrogen peroxide on a cut. Upon contact the BP creates bubbles and releases oxygen. The same is true of BP, but it has the advantage of using benzoyl - which pulls the peroxide deep into the pores. C-Acnes bacteria can not survive in the presence of oxygen, so as the oxygen is pulled deep into the pores it is killed. *While Benzoyl is wet it can cause bleaching of fabrics. If you are applying this to your back, or on your face just before bed, you may experience bleaching of your pillow case or T-shirt. Please use an old shirt and put an old cover on your pillow to test. Directions: Benzoyl Peroxide can definitely be drying - this IS the entire point. You want to have a light amount of flaking on your skin when you wake. You may use our Acne Diamond Dermabrasion Scrub to get off any flakes, or you may want to invest in our Wooden Face Brush - either will work well and keep your face smooth. You will want to apply the BP5 everywhere you are prone to acne - even if you are not breaking out at the time! *AVOID eye area. We suggest starting off using it 1x per day. or every other day. You may either leave it on all evening, or you can wash it off after 30-60 minutes. If you find that you are getting too dry then cut back to every other day and build up from there as you skin get's more tolerant. more info
