Book was in good shape. So far the treatment seems to be working, but it may be too early to tell. Lot’s of good helpful information. My teenager is reading the book herself and applying the treatment, however I had to get one of the ingredients from a local compounding pharmacy with a prescription.

I have been fighting acne for too long. As such I was hesitant to pick up this book when it caught my eye in a local bookstore (I wasn’t looking for any more help. I had resigned looking for an acne cure and was mercifully placing my skin in the hands of my dermatologist – which by the way, wasn’t helping). As I began perusing the book, I realized I already had all the recommended products at home, so why not give this regime a try? Just a different way of using them…and adding ice (which by the way make so much sense and is such a relaxing part of my new routine). Well, one week into the six week program, everyone is commenting on how clear my skin has become! It’s easy, and it works…

I looked through this book but did not purchase it. Instead, I took notes on it and then headed off to a gigantic skin care and beauty store to find the correct stuff. Well, 45 minutes later I walked out with a cleanser…and nothing else. This book is very detailed, very precise, and very helpful, but it is extremely difficult to get a hold of the right acids for your face, It has turned my pale, pale skin red, but I found it easy to coverup with make-up. The acne I have looks a lot better and this system makes sense. It is very simple though, and basically it shows that the best way to combat acne is perseverance and sticking with a trustworthy program.

This book saved my face. I’ve been suffering from acne breakouts since my late teens, and now in my mid twenties I faced the problem of both wrinkles and pimples! I had spent hundred’s of $$$ on acne meds. and what nots, and feeling a bit sceptical I purchased Dr. Dubrow’s book. Thank God! It has been two months now since I started on the cure, and although the night treatment was a pain at first, seeing the almost inmediate results was well worth the hassle. I can recommend this book to anyone who suffers from acne, young or old/er, my skin is now clear, soft, and acne is no longer a problem. And thanks to the follow up regimen suggested, the tiny wrinkles I had near my mouth are almost invisible.

I’m at week 7, still suffering from some hormonal pustules so this book wasn’t a cure. However my skin and acne did improve for the better. I’ve seen 5 dermatologists, tried a lot of prescriptions, pills and just didn’t want to go that route anymore. This is worth it for someone who will be committed to the program(follow it religiously for 6 weeks and not skip nights), give it an honest shot (not quit in week 3 if they have a few pimples forming still), and wants to avoid taking pills. I feel that I’ve learned some great pimple fighting techniques that I will incorporate into my skincare routine for life. But it is still too early to tell whether the cure has ultimately changed my skin for life.

As a sidenote, this book gives a good outline of acne and about attacking the source. The recommended products are actually the same ones dermatologists have had me using too, except it’s all about how you apply them–NOT just using them. And, I think that is where the strength lies in this book. It’s worth a shot.

I’m 21 years old and have tried pretty much every product on the market starting with “Neutrogena”, “Clean and Clear” over adult-super-expencive “olay” stuff. I bought the entiere product line just to make sure I’m not mixing any wrong ingriedients. What a waste. But during my teenage years I was convinced that the commercials on TV are saying the truth. After all, who would sell a product that doesn’t work (Dr. Dubrow explained it to me).
Like so many people out there, I wasn’t looking for any more cure. Nor did I ever think of looking in a bookstore for an: acne cure book.
To make a long story short: I found the book; I spent money on it; and I believe I have never treated my skin better than I do right now!

What made me buy the book, was not so much the fact that it said “acne cure” on the cover, but that the book told me about my skin. That was something way more deeper and interesting to me than any “proactive….this-will-be-the-last-product-you-buy” commercial.
Learnig how my skin works, and that it puts so much efford into curing my pimples, makes me like my skin again! Now I understand why I have pimples, why they do take a long time to go away, why they are red, why ordianary cleansers don’t work…

I’m in my third week of following the steps explained in Dr. Dubrows book. During this period of time new pimples arrived on my skin and look nasty as always. However, because I believe in Dr. Dubrows excellent written explanations about curing my acne, I will not get weak and start squeezing. It’s a process that takes time and after suffering for almost a decade I now have the time to let my skin do it’s work without interrupting.

I will come back to this page and keep you updated on my skin! I’m sure it will be positive updates!
Thanks for listening to my story!

    Zits B Gone
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am 52 year old female and have suffered from pimples and acne since I was 17. I have always had ridiculously oily skin to boot. I have tried drugstore cleansers, dept. store cleansers, Proactive, Murad and Rx items. Last year I spent over $4000 getting a series of micro peels, micro dermabrasion and levulan treatments at a respected dermatologist’s office. This past January I developed huge cystic acne over my entire forehead from the bridge of my nose upward – even in my eyebrows, which I attribute to perimenopause and changing hormones. It was horrible, all I can say is thank God for bangs. It was depressing, I wanted to hide. Nothing worked, not even my faithful Zeno Zit Zapper put a dent in these things. I found “The Acne Cure” on Amazon and ordered it in early April, after reading the reviews and how it had helped many others. Two months after starting my new routine, my acne is gone and I barely get a pimple anymore. There are still a few blackheads here and there, but even they are diminished and not seen unless magnified. My skin is so clear I am not afraid to go out without makeup!

I already had several salicylic acid washes on hand, so I ordered 10% Glycolic Cleanser ($26.95/9oz) and 5% Benzoyl Peroxide lotion ($17.95/2 oz) from platinumskincare.com. I washed my face twice a day using the Neutrogena oil free acne wash for 2 minutes, rinsing, then using the glycolic cleanser for 2 minutes. I also used a cotton ball and toner, before my skin was totally dry, to help wipe off dead skin. I also put on the benzoyl peroxide lotion on after chilling my skin before bedtime only. I noticed some improvement after 2 days. After about 6 weeks I seemed to develop little whiteheads, so I cut back on the routine, using a non acid based skin wash in the morning, but keeping the 2 cleanser routine at night. Little whiteheads were gone in 2 days, never to return. I only use the benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment, as needed now, as well.

Not only is my skin clear, I still occasionally get a pimple or 2, but they are small and go away quickly, but my skin is not oily anymore either! Another plus is that I had a couple of long time companions on my face that looked like little warts almost. One on the side of my nose and a couple in the middle of my forehead. They had been there for over 15 years. First the ones on my forehead peeled off, layer by layer and 2 weeks ago, the one on the side of my nose did the same thing. There’s a little discoloration mark there, but it is flat, no scarring involved for either of these areas. Also with this routine, I notice a softening of the acne scars I have had for years so I assume it will only improve more over time.

How I wish I had had this information years ago, but I am thankful I finally found “The Acne Cure”. Thank you Dr Dubrow and Brenda Adderly for putting out such great and simple information that really works!

Interesting information, but it didn’t work for me
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I found the information in this book enlightening, so I went out and bought the required products (vitamin A, alpha lipoic acid, vitamin c ester, oral and topical) and embarked on a low glycemic diet. I used the products for about two weeks and broke out with what amounted to probably 20 small zits around my nose and mouth. As soon as I stopped with the products and went back to my usual benzoyl peroxide regimen my skin cleared back up nicely.

To be fair, I think it is hard to follow the routine he recommends and finding the right products is both difficult and expensive, so perhaps I did not do everything exactly right, or get just the right products, but I did not expect my skin to get worse.

I have never had an acne problem until I turned 30. Then, I started breaking out with anywhere from 2 to 7 pimples at a time. I couldn’t believe it! It was very upsetting. I bought this book, and it DID impove the existing acne. But I still had breakouts. I started tracking the flare-ups by recording how many I had, and the date. I found it was related to my period and ovulation times, basically every two weeks the acne would worsen.

It seemed as if hormonal imbalance was the cause. I also had other symptoms…anxiety, stress, etc. I started taking an herbal supplement..chaste tree berry..used by European doctors for centuries to treat hormonal problems. After 60 days, my acne is gone! And my stress and anxiety levels have been reduced dramatically.

In summary, this book reduce the amount of acne I had. But it took the herbal supplement to truly end my adult acne problem. I also have noticed if I eat a lot of carbs, I am more prone to flare up.

    Lots of unanswered questions….
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this book with a lot of skeptisim, but ready to give it a try, as it boasts a cure, not a treatment.
I found the information difficult to understand when it came to “exactly” what I needed to buy. The Glycolic acid was the worst. A few brand names were quoted, and the percentage of what I needed…8% glycolic acid, these products were available only online, and after I found the brands recommended, I was totally confused as to “which” one I was suppose to get. The brands that were quoted have tons of products, and I spent hours trying to find the exact one I needed.
Later on in the book they say, after your skin is acne free, you should follow up with a cleanser with glycolic acid “if you can find one”. Yikes all this research and you don’t know if there is one???
I have been doing the treatment for 3 weeks, and do see a noticable improvement, but nothing like I expected. I do have peeling skin and wonder if other things that happen are what is suppose to be happening.
There are no answers as to what your skin will look like during week one, week two, and so forth, so I can only assume the peeling is normal, and the “new” type of acne I am getting now is normal???….there are just too many unanswered questions.
I could write a book on what I have learned NOT to do, and what products to buy that are cheaper and easier to get.

Well after the ten weeks, I am not cured. I still have acne, though there is less of it, the acne I do get is just plain different than what I use to have. I get very few actual pimples, but they seem to take weeks to go away. It’s just weird. My skin is always dry, though I moisturize like crazy. I’m not sure where the “other” reviewer gets her products, but if they were so simple and cheap to find, I don’t think Terry Dubrow would have come up with his own line of products to use while on this program. The Glycolic acid is the costly product. Those containing Alpha Hydroxy acids are not the same as glycolic.

So glad I found this book!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I researched the claims in this book, as well as a ton of others, and read all of the reviews and decided to give it a chance. I had tried so many other things, including, but not limited to, Proactiv, Dr. Murad, other OTC topical ointments and prescriptions too. I did not personally know anyone who had tried this particular approach, but I got the book and the products listed in it ( all OTC and very affordable) and started the program. It was easy,a little time consuming at night with the icing part, but totally worth it. My skin has never looked better!! : ) My esthetician of about a year who does my acne facials was so amazed at the results she asked to borrow my book. I gladly handed it over and she researced it herself. She thought it was a great idea to combine the Benzoyl Peroxide and Salacylic Acid because some people respond to one more than the other and some need a combo of both. She wanted to give it a try on some of her other clients that had bad acne, she started them on it and has seen results on all of them. This program targets all skin types and REALLY WORKS!! I love it!! If you find yourself at your witts end and nothing is working give this a try, what do you have to lose? It is very inexpensive and easy to follow. I hope this helps. Good luck!!

I’ve only used the “Cure” for about four days, and my skin already looks much better! The nice part about the “cure” is that you don’t have to do anything visually embarrassing or break the bank trying. (No goofy facial masks, for instance). It teaches you how to take care of your skin afterwards, as time passes. The book and the products recommended aren’t expensive….I almost passed this book up, but am now glad that I bought it!

This book lets you know how to take care of your skin at any age. It tells you what products to use and that they dont have to be expensive but can be bought at any drug store. I had this book before and lost it in a move and had to reorder it when i started breaking out again. As soon as i started up the regimen my skin cleared up a lot and after a few days.. no more acne. I have tried everything but this book shows you what will work for different kinds of acne. Thank you Dr Dubrow. I no longer have to be embarrassed by outbreaks and that is a beautiful thing!

Hope For Acne Sufferers At Last!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have a fourteen year old son, deep in the throes of acne. I suffered myself as a teen and still have flare-ups, so I know how devastating this condition can be. The last program he tried was ProActive, which seemed to work for a few weeks and then…didn’t. He stuck with the program though for six months, to give it time to do its best. Well, my son’s face just got worse. I made an appointment with a dermatologist. One day while browsing in a bookstore, I saw The Acne Cure. I was very skeptical and flipped through the book. What I saw did not look promising…I mean, who hasn’t used benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid? As I looked further into the daily routine, I saw information which was presented in a different way than ever before. The doctor was suggesting using these products in a specific order along with glycolic acid and cold! I was intrigued and bought the book. I must say, we saw improvement after about 5 days. My son’s face after two weeks is remarkably better than before he started the program and after the six weeks, I expect him to have clear skin! My son wasn’t even following the program to the letter, but he was definitely seeing results. He is now more interested in following the doctor’s specific instructions. I think any acne sufferer will be very pleased with the results achieved from following this program. The best part is you may already have the products in the specific concentrations recommended by Dr. Dubrow at home…we did. This makes it very economical. We have cancelled the appointment with the dermatologist. Do yourself or your loved one a huge favor and give this a try!

I never had acne until I turned 30, and after three years of being on antibiotics to stop horrible breakouts and scarring, I was ready to try something else.

I would get individual, painful cyst acne that would stay around forever. The antibiotics helped make them occur less often, but I didn’t like the idea of staying on them forever.

By following the program in this book, I’ve been able to get off the antibiotics and get rid of the breakout almost entirely. After being on the program for 3 years, I have not been able to move to the maintence program without breakouts returning, but the basic program is so easy and inexpensive that I don’t mind staying on it. Also, when I do occasionaly get a pimple now, it is not as bad. By following the books advice, I can often avoid the pimple ever actually surfacing, but if it does, it is not as big, and it heals much more quickly.

I’ve recommended this to many friends and will continue using it as long as needed.

    Informative, But Not Revolutionary
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
“The Acne Cure.” Those three words can instantly conjure up weary thoughts in the acne-ridden. Why? It’s because anyone who has acne has already heard about a plethora of acne cures. For instance, one cannot browse an acne related website without being exposed to “cures” one has discovered. Television consistently show teenagers in neon bright colors appearing and reappearing on the screen jabbing blackheads and dousing their faces in water. “Bye Bye Breakouts!” they shout.

We are even convinced to try “miracle creams and solutions”, home remedies, weird regimens and even antibiotics. Accutane, the “if all else fails” antibiotic, is even advertised as an acne cure. I’ve tried Accutane twice in the past, and even THAT didn’t rid me of acne forever. So if Accutane, an incredibly potent medication, cant remove acne from my life, how can The Acne Cure’s four simple steps save the day? Why is THIS Acne Cure the real deal?

I must say, being promised the acne cure in a [...] book, intrigued me, so I picked up the book so I can review it for my website.

The main questions that instantly popped in my head were:

    - Who is Terry J. Dubrow?

    - Why is he confident enough to label his book the Acne Cure?

    - If this cure is true, why isn’t it universally known?

The Acne Cure is described as a “groundbreaking four step program that immediately helps to improve your skin.” The Acne Cure promises a fast acting cure, regardless of the severity of your acne, with no side effects or dietary changes. Dubrow promises results in 24 HOURS and complete eradication of your blemises in six weeks or less.

Sounds too good to be true?

The Acne Cure is an extremely valuable book for one yearning to learn about their skin. It’s full of empowering ideas, skin revelations, and effortlessly communicates an authentic feel. The book starts out beautifully. Dubrow explains how magnificent and dynamic the skin is in the first chapter, “Skin.” It is in this chapter where he strongly communicates to the reader his faith in his regimen.

“Using the techniques outlined in this book, acne can be completely eliminated in 95% of all cases — even the most severe ones — in six weeks or less..”

The remaining 5 percent? I figured that five percent would consist of people who had NO success with the Acne Cure or people whose skin became worse. Wrong. Dubrow believes that 5% will experience a great reduction of their acne. Therefore, if true, it’s pretty safe to say that The Acne Cure is a book that every person with acne should own. Right?

So, you’re wondering if you should purchase this book.

Before I continue, Have you ever wondered :

If the Acne Cure is for you?

    What Skin Does?

    How does Acne Spread?

How to take care of your skin from the inside?

The Effect Stress Has on Acne?

How to cure acne in Black, Hispanic and Asian Skin?

Then you’re in luck. This and more is covered in the book.

My biggest gripe with the Acne Cure though is the actual step by step process used to achieve clear skin. Admittedly, I don’t use the Acne Cure — I have my own regimen that I discovered through years of trial and error — but the components that make up Dubrow’s “Cure” are products the common acne suffer has been using for years. The book is informative, but not revolutionary. The actual Acne Cure consists of Salicyclic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, and a sunscreen.

What if someone’s skin does not mesh well with one of these products though? What if someone refuses to use Benzoyl Peroxide because of immense irritation? Are they excluded from trying the Acne Cure? Where are the alternatives?

I’m an advocate of a simple, quick and easy to use regimen, so the use of all of the aforementioned products daily irritates me. Personally, I know I would deviate or lack the discipline to follow this regimen everyday. Using icepacks to reduce irritation? It may sound good in theory, but I find that tedious and a bit ridiculous. If you believe that you can stick with the regimen and never break or deviate, then you should try it.

Secondly, using Dubrow’s Acne Cure requires a large amount of accuracy and dedication. His regimen is pretty lengthy, but at the same time, it’s ambiguous. His application instructions are NOT very clear, so it’s going to take a bit of re-reading on your part to fully grasp the steps required to clear your skin. It’s important that you do, so you don’t risk taking another hit to your self confidence or damage your skin any further.

Overall, The Acne Cure is a must own not because of the actual regimen inside, but the information. Reading this book has enabled me to fully understand how skin and acne works. For example, Before, I knew that popping acne was wrong, but I never knew exactly why. In one of his great revelations, Dubrow explains what happens when we pop our pimples, how the body reacts, and goes into depth about the skin’s irony : in an attempt to fight acne, the skin defense mechanism actually makes itself MORE vulnerable to spreading and infection.

Little gems like this are spread all throughout the book, so it’s a great purchase for that alone. I highly recommend this book. Buy it today.

My son had horrible acne with big oozing pustules all over his face. I spent a fortune on supplements, lazer treatments, and prescription Retin-A…..NOTHING WORKED. The Perricone book was also a joke! By the time I purchased the Acne Cure, I was desperate to help my child. So far, after 4 weeks on the treatment, his face is almost clear. My son’s particular case was by far, the worst I had ever seen. This program has been a God-send

This program works, but use it in moderation.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I struggled with acne for 17 yrs, and the program outlined in this book gave positive results in less than one week. It has even made those dreaded “cystic” ones a thing of the past. However, I do agree that it is a fairly harsh regimen. I would consider my skin to be VERY durable and not irritated easily at all; yet at about the two week mark, my skin started to peel and get really dried out.

My suggestion to anyone wanting to give this a shot is to use the full protocol sparingly when first trying it out (perhaps every other evening) or try what another reviewer suggested and slowly add each component to your cleansing ritual. I personally use a 2% salicylic wash by Neutrogena every AM and on every other PM (like I said, I have tough skin). On the evenings I don’t use the salycylic wash, I use an extremely mild soap and will alternate between using the glycolic acid and the benzoyl peroxide.

Sounds confusing? Well, it takes a bit of commitment to keep it straight, but the results are very much worth it. Up until about 4 months ago when I started this, I had no idea what it was like to wake up in the morning and not dread looking at what had sprouted up overnight. Another reviewer commented that it was difficult to find the acids – I had to go to a skin care specialist to get mine. However, I have noticed that sephora.com sells glycolic acid by several different makers; sephora is on the pricey side, so you might want to look around some more.

This book offers a detailed look at the causes and cures for the acne sufferers. The program he recommended is easy enough to follow on a daily basis. He doesn’t recommend any of his products but we have to search for ourselves.

I think the author doesn’t want any conflict of economical interests to offer his product line but spread the true science of curing the acne itself. It took me a long time to search and locate all the products he recommended in this book, but I have gained more knowledge in the process. I have found the acnerx kit from a company that offers all products this author recommends.

I like the author’ acne cure program and I highly recommend all acne suffers to buy the book and follow his program. It’s a good book. You won’t regret it.

After searching again for acne cure I found this book and read the reviews. I went and got this book from the library instead of buying. I have moderate but persistant acne, I have been tru everything including TWO courses of Accutane! I was familiar with all the products, but I didn’t realize that it is necessary to use them together in a certain order. It made sense after reading the book. This book is to the point and I see positive results with the use of the techniques. Cheap 8% AHA acid could be purchased in Walgreens, their brand and it costs $5.99, large jar or lotion, salicilic acid is cheap, so is BP. I am looking forward till I finish 6 weeks ( it has been about 2) so i can have perfect skin. Nothing else worked, but thanks to this wonderful book I know exactly what to do and noone will persuade me otherwise. I have done a lot of reading and research on my own in reagards to acne and its treatments, this book is written by one smart man and I am so happy I found it !!!! Please try this treatment!!! Healthy skin is soooo important and I think that it is the first sign of beauty.
AHA and salicilic acid makes my skin very smooth. I don’t get that much irritation because my skin was tortured enough already before. Actually, I got my skin more irritated just by using BP of 2.5% twice a day, and now using all the products in combination my skin is just fine, I pretty much don’t have any peeling. Also, I went and found good night cream as per Doc’s recommendations: Nivea CoQ-10 night cream, it has Vit C, E, and other good stuff. I just put it around my eyes and twice a week on the whole face at night. Good luck to everyone.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
No wonder I’ve had little long term success in treating my acne with just a product like OXY. It’s all about attacking ALL the sources of acne as Dubrow explains in easy to understand language. The synergy of his program makes perfect sense. I was wondering why I hadn’t read about such a program before. Then I realized that Dubrow is a board certified plastic surgeon, and not a dermatologist. If he were, he certainly wouldn’t want to cut off his pimples to spite his face.

    Seven months later…
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I wrote a positive review several months back about this book. I’m surprised to read several reviewers’ negative comments. I started Dr. Dubrow’s programme, as outlined in the book, just before Christmas. I was amazed that for the first time in my life something that made a claim about helping acne actually WORKED.

Now, seven months later, I have no acne. None. I don’t mean less, I mean NONE. I wish I’d had this book twenty years ago when this problem first showed up in my life. Imagine what it’s like to wake up every morning and know that when you look in the mirror there will be nothing wrong with your face. That’s what I experience now because of what I learned in this book. What’s more, while the initial six-week programme is quite involved, in the “maintenance” phase of the programme, where I am now, I have to do nothing more than wash my face in the morning and night.

You’re entitled to scepticism — we all are. Sales of bogus or harmful acne cures are a gold mine, and we’re the slaves working it. I don’t want to cast aspersions on these other reviewers — they’ve had whatever experiences they’ve had. But I wish I could give every acne sufferer the results I’ve been so fortunate to have since finding Dr Dubrow’s book. If you’re hesitating, I’d say to take the risk. It’s made a world of difference for me.

I’ve been suffering from acne since my late twenties…I’m 34 now. I tried every product available, spent thousands of dollars, and was still a mess. Frustrated and depressed…I tried The Acne Cure. Amazingly it worked! It’s been about 10 weeks and all continuing acne is gone. A couple of stubborn cysts remain, but no new ones are forming.

It is such an amazing feeling to wake up with clear skin. Do yourself a favor and at least try it. Since everyone is different, you may have to tweek the process to get the best results for your skin type. It is totally worth the effort.

Good book for learning about acne and a logical plan for “curing” it.

I’m at the mid-way point of the 6 week plan, and overall, have seen great improvement, though, not a cure yet. As a 34 year old woman, I’m gearing up to deal with wrinkles, and combatting the acne I’ve had since the aget of 15 is just getting exhausting and ridiculous. I appreciate the upfront education on skin care and acne–after asking several dermatologists about the bumps under my skin and gettting no answers, it’s refreshing to have this addressed in this book. I applaud Mr. Dubrow’s rather rare decision not to create his own skin care line to promote with the book. All products were easy to find in a mid-sized city.

At the end of week three, I’ve experienced great improvement in my skin’s clarity and glow. I am still experiencing a few break-outs, but they clear up quite quickly. When I started the program, I was sure that I’d experience terrible dryness as the combinations of all of these chemicals seemed that it would be harsh on the skin. But to my surprise, I’ve been amazed to find that I can actually wear a solution of Benzyol Perioxide to bed with no moisturizer and my skin looks good in the morning after my Salicylic Acid treatment. I must admit that I skip the Glycolic Acid if my skin feels tight, but I find my skin is adjusting to this. Be sure to buy quality sunscreen and wear it, as you will notice your skin is smoother, but also thinner. One tip: I found that the program seems to work better if I am generous with the amount of each chemical I use and mix it well with an equal amount of water to apply it like a medium thick masque. My working theory is the water helps to carry the chemicals into the skin (I dry my face after rinsing between products). Don’t be stingy, if you are going to try this, do it right, so you know if it will work for you. My products:

    AM:

Neutrogena Rapid Clear(tm) Acne Defense Face Lotion 2% Salicylic Acid

Peter Thomas Roth 10% Glycolic Acid Clarifying Gel

(my personal wrinkle-prevention hydrating regime: Skinceuticals Feric C+E serum, B5 gel, and moisturizer; followed with Obagi sunscreen 35 SPF)

    PM:

Neutrogena Rapid Clear(tm) Acne Defense Face Lotion 2% Salicylic Acid

Zapzyt 10% Benzyol Perioxide Gel + ice

    Leave on BP Gel overnight

One other note: be sure to use a good eye moisturizer as this skin is the thinnest, and I’ve found that, although I avoid my eye area, I need to be quite viligent not to end up with a dry, puffy eye area. I have hopes that another 3-4 weeks on the program may actually clear up the bumps under my skin and my acne. I’m seeing enough progress to be optimistic.

Lost one star due to the book’s instructions, which are not well organized. I thank the other poster who spelled out the AM & PM routine here on Amazon. If Mr. Dubrow re-issues this book, I hope he clarifies his plan and does some randomized studies to bring more validity to the science behind his assertions.

    Good luck!

After 15 years, I stopped taking birth control and my face revolted in constant acne breakouts. I tried ‘the cure’ and after just a few days my face did start to clear up. But it was short lived. Now, after 6 weeks on the program my acne is back full force. After a high hopes and a good start, I’m really disappointed.

    The Acne Cure
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
My daughter has suffered with acne for several years and we were tired of the routine dermatologist visits, expense and minimal results. When I saw the book I discussed it with her and we decided to give it a try. After several visits to pharmacies we had collected all the ingredients to the tune of about $65.
We started out the routine that night.
By the third treatment my daughters skin began to peel off. I quickly returned to the book to see what to do. There are no warnings, no suggestions to try patch tests or anything like that. My daughter does NOT have sensitive skin and was using some heavy-duty products prior to going off them to try this book out. The book had no solutions or suggestions on what to do if you had a reaction either. I was a bit miffed.

Anyway, we immediately stopped the treatments(duh), but the following morning, much to our horror, she had swollen up like a balloon in her face. She cant wear her glasses and her eyes were almost swollen shut. She had a very severe reaction to all those “over the counter” common products and ended up on steroids and mega doses of benadryl. She is still swollen and her face is beet red. It burned her skin. There is no itching, its not a skin allergy. Somehow the chemicals started a reaction in her that the doctors have yet to cure.
If you get this book, I advise you to use some serious caution…

    Plastic surgeon as author?
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
As a dermatology resident, I see and treat acne on a daily basis. I recently flipped through the book, and found its content pseudo-scientific. I was surprised to see that the main author is a Plastic Surgeon. I have many friends & colleagues in Plastic Surgery, and they all tell me that they get no specific training in managment of the skin, other than performing surgery on it. Although the author is a “doctor,” I don’t think he has the training and qualifications to write this book. I would read this book with a large grain of salt.

As of today, I’ve done the first part of the program for 10 weeks. I’ve only gotten two or three pimples a week for a month, and they go away more easily than they used to. Let’s call it a 70-80% improvement. The products I used were Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash (2% salicylic acid), Paula’s Choice 8% Alpha Hydroxy Gel (8% glycolic acid, no salicylic acid), Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment (2.5% benzoyl peroxide), and Eucerin Extra Protective Moisture Lotion (SPF 30, non-comedogenic).

I’m moving onto the maintenance program to see what happens. I’ll be using Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 3% Facial Wash, NutriBiotic Face Creme (alpha lipoic acid, DMAE, vitamin c ester, tocotrienol), and the same moisturizer. Updates in 2-3 weeks.

I’ve been an acne sufferer since I was 13 years old, and have been on every antibiotic, tried every topical medication in combination with those antibiotics, and have been on 3 courses of Accutane in the last 8 years. My acne has never been extremely severe…but it has been quite resistant to most treatments. I was really excited when I bought this book and read the reviews, it sounded like it might really be the cure I’d been searching for all these years. The plan was a lot of work, especially at night with the ice packs, but I was willing to try anything. I followed the plan exactly as stated for 6 full weeks with little to no improvement. That was my experience.

    Save your money!

Another Dermatologist got more of my money… what’s new. What gets me is their career revolves around skin yet none of them know anything except for how to take your money. Yes, they all have their theories and that is just what they are… “THEORIES”. In theory this system would work, but in reality every case of acne is different. This might work for his superstar actress wife who probably has near perfect skin, but someone like the average person it will not. This is by no means a “CURE” and It took guts for the Dr. Terry J. Dubrow to entitle it that… he probably thought it would make it sell more copies knowing full well that there is no “cure” for acne as the “experts” know it. I know I’m a tough critic, but don’t call something a cure when you know it’s only a theory! OK, I’ve vented… now one last piece of advice… Save your money!

P.S. I guess I should follow the rule of “if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all.” Well, OK then I’ll tell you that the dermatologist behind the book, Dr. Terry J. Dubrow, does explain the cause of acne very well. So if you want to learn how acne comes to fruition then this would a pretty good book for that. But you can find that info on the internet!!!

    Wow, this really works!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had acne for more than 10 years and I’ve done so many things to try to cure it that it is incredible. I did the Accutane, antibiotics, very strong peels that left my skin destroyed for days, birth control. I was resigned to having acne be a part of my life. A few weeks ago my skin revolted again and I was so incredibly upset that I was willing to go for another Accutane treatment even though I know very well that this medication has so many side effects and is so unhealthy.

By chance I saw this book in a bookstore, even though at the time I didn’t think there was an acne cure. After doing the program just a few days my skin Feels healthy! I have had this feeling only when on medication! And the program is so simple yet effective! The idea to dilute the acids with a few drops of water is very smart, this way you can cover your whole face not just the problem areas and you can prevent new pimples from showing up. Try this program, it is really worth it!

So, thanks Dr. Dubrow, I appreciate it! I wish I had this information when I was a teenager!

PS: A week ago a doctor told me the old “Don’t eat chocolate” story. I am so glad that Dr. Dubrow dispels this myth because chocolate is the only thing that I truly love to eat!

The stuff works, but hard to follow. Thats why I give it 3 s

Important information that will help you. Read everything! Long post.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am happy for you to come your way into a brand new start in life. But before you get into it, let me assure you, it all depends on YOU!

Thats right, you. This book is effective, but only if followed 100 percent correctly. Which is not easy! believe me, especially after loads of failed attempt and relunctant to follow through due to lack of trust and confidence in other “solution”. Thats what holding some of these negative reviewer back. The method in this book does work, but only if you follow it consistently everyday at the specific hour and specific routine and all the micro details involved in the process. Terry J Dubrow is a great researcher and doctor, but when it comes to communicating his points, I find that to be his biggest flaw. His Acne Cure Program, the routine is not listed PRECISELY clear, he wrote it under the assumption that we know exactly what to use for morning, night, etc… So let me clarify for you my friends.

    Morning: Step 1:

S-Acid first, make sure you add a few drop of water, and leave it on face for at least 2 minutes. The ammount listed is the size of penny. Now don’t assume thats enough for your entire face. Thats only enough for one part of your face, I think more is necessary, so work your way through from forehand “top to bottom” face, nose, cheeks, chin, etc. 2-3 penny should be enough. rub gently in circular motion. Leave for 2 minutes. After that, use warm water from shower to wash off the solution.

    2) Use G-Acid in the exact same manner as the S-Acid. Make sure you completely wash off the S-Acid first before adding the G-Acid. The only difference in using the G-Acid is, it takes some time for the acid to sink in to effect, so leave it on for 2-3 minutes, then gently scrub off the dead skin cells [you should have quite some since the G-Acid would inevitably help you remove it from clogging" and make sure you cleanse off all the dead skin cells so it doesn't clog up your pores. After you use warm water to effectively remove dead skin cells, move onto step 3.

Step 3: [after shower] Apply OIL-FREE moisturizer with Sunscreen at 30 concentration. Make sure you use moisturizer or it won’t work. This is a HUGE step of the cure. By doing this, it will help improve your skin dramatically and actually help remove the acne a lot more effective. So buy a quality OIL-FREE moisturizer with SPF 30.

Thats Morning. I suggest doing S-acid and G-acid steps during shower, and do it everyday EXACTLY THAT TIME. FORCE YOURSELF INTO IT BY MAKING IT A JOB. A NATURAL HABIT WITHOUT EVEN THINKING. Or else you will definitely fail if you don’t do so or waste your time and money and dont get significant improvement.

    ————————

    Night time,

Step 1: Use the S-Acid process [exactly] the same as the morning one. So meaning the S-Acid needs to be washed off.

Step 2: After you finished washing, heres the tricky part.

Grab your BP Gel from your fridge, it needs to be very cold. So if it’s not cold enough, before you take shower at night to apply step 1, put the gel in freezer from the lower fridge and leave it there until you finish showering and using Step 1.

Once it’s cold enough after applying step 1, Take out the BP gel from fridge or otherwise freezer. Take at least 4-5 large ice cube. I repeat, large ones. Not mini ones or broken ones. Get some big ones. Grab your face towel. Put the 4-5 large ice cube and bp gel on your face towel. Grab your ice packs. “I seriously suggest people to get AT LEAST 2 ICE PACK. I suggest 3, but if possible get 6! Heres why, this is important. Each time you apply, I suggest using 3 at a time to cover your entire face, so you treat it all together in under 15 minutes. If you only use 1 ice pack, not only do you have to leave it on one part of your face for 10 minutes, you have to leave it onto other parts of your face, which compose of 3 main parts, Top forehead, Left Face, Right side Face. So add that all together, easily 50 minutes. It takes at least couple minutes to apply the gel and ice and everything each time.

Grab all your ice pack, breifly rinse your ice pack with cold water for couple seconds. Dont wash it. Leave the washing at the end when you finish using it, so next time you use it is clean and just briefly rinse it.

Secondly after one use of the ice pack, the ice pack no longer becomes cold. The ice pack im referring to are those “blue” ones or whichever liquid gel color they have. It is usually usable for both hot and cold. So once your blood warms up, or your breathe heats up the pack, it becomes defective. [When you leave the pack over your face, it becomes hard to breathe and you use your mouth to breathe in air, and during that process, it may heat up the ice pack quicker] So imagine reusing one pack thats not even cold after one tiome usage on other parts of your face… It becomes INCONSISTENT! So you need 3 ice packs for 3 parts of your face, leave it on together covering your entire face, that way each pack are dedicated to each specific area of your problem area. In the book it wasnt detailed, because it would have no problem treating a couple of pimples with one pack, but with average sufferers, it’s not sufficient.

3 packs. Get extra 3 packs, the reason is, 1 night of cooling is not enough to deeply make the pack cold, so if you have 6 pack, you can exchange the pack for rotation which leaves more time for the packs to absorb the coldness and last longer during that 10 minute treatment. This is extremely important, many times it felt like it wasn’t “effective” or not satisfy when it’s not cold enough. So you must keep it cold and feel “fulfilled” inside.

Now down to the actual details of application.

After you grab everything, the packs, ice cubes, cold BP gel, lay down on bed with blanket covering yourself [make it comfortable as you can] relax yourself, allow time to relax, release the tension, and start running the ice cubes over your forehead, run one full cube per area. 1 cube Top forehead, 1 cube left side of face, 1 cube right side of face. Rerun it with remaining cube on all area of face and rerun it until all the ice are gone, this should make your skin cold to the touch. with lots of melting water. So place the towel right underneath your face when you run the ice. Make sure you do this until it really becomes cold to the touch, not freezing cold, but cold as in it won’t just fade away in matter of seconds. Once it’s that stage, apply generous amount of BP GEL that are really cold [dont be cheap, put a lot], onto your face, smooth it out, even it out. Do it gently, once thats done. “try not to take too long, your finger due to blood circulation will heat up the gel” then immediately place all ice pack in position, you should see some small ice on top of the pack, it’s okay leave it on. Place all packs onto your face. Rest and relax for 10 minutes, try not to breathe so much, as it will heat up the pack.just relax, place the pack firmly onto your face so it’s actually “touching” the surface, dont push it aggressively though, just gentle placement and gentle finger holding to lock down the position of the pack. Dont put entire hand to hold down the pack, that heats it up faster, use fingers to hold the position. let comfortably, so all your pores are open for the BP gel to enter to work itself. Leave it on for 10 minutes minimun [assuming you have entire face covered together]. Once 10 minute is over, I suggest listening to music and knowing the track of the time, so you can guess by which track is the time. Once this is done and becomes your everyday relaxation time, things will go very well. I promise you. Whats hard is the experience of the cold pack, it is not a pleasant experience if you mess up or make it not comfortable, thats why I suggest doing it in bed with some blankets to keep your body warm and comfortable while your face is doing the cooling. try to enjoy it. Once time is up, grab the towel, wipe off the excess BP gel and leave the remaining to work overnight. Do this every evening after night shower or before going to bed. Wash your packs, put it in freezer, put BP gel in fridge. And there you have it. Your night time routine.

    ——————————–

If you follow the day time routine and night time routine EVERYDAY WITHOUT MESSING UP ONCE and doing it ON TIME, it will work, give it at least 6-7 weeks before you say this doesnt work, some people may notice immediate improvement the next day. Sounds easy right? NOT AT ALL! It’s a commitment, especially when it requires all that effort. Just make sure you follow the Morning routine and the night time routine every single day of the program, on time on track, not leaving out one single step.

It’s not that simple as it sounds, when life and stress comes into play, getting off work all tired, sometimes you just don’t feel like doing it, especially the cold pack [more so if you dislike it] so make it through, make it comfortable and relaxing, try to enjoy it, force yourself through and get over it. Conquer your acne.

If you dont do so as told, getting lazy or don’t feel like doing the BP gel with cold packs, or only doing morning today, tomorrow night time, etc etc with any inconsistent combination, you are wasting your time and money on the product. Because it won’t heal like that, it takes ongoing penetration with the morning routine and the night time routine to work together. It works each time little by little, and by the end of the program, you see a dramatic result. It’s not a overnight magic for all people. So if you do it consistent for 4 days, then decides to stop for 2 days, and redo it. Thats not good. You must do it everyday consistently. Thats the key. Thats the difficult part. Thats why I give it 3 star. The morning and night works together. You can’t stretch the time between those two. It’s meant to be together like a couple, if you seperate it, you will only waste time and get frustrated. So do yourself a favor, get the book, read the stuff, so you get convinced, follow through what I suggest, and do as exactly and consistently, you will see result. It’s that simple. It’s why it works for those people on the reality TV, because they are forced to stick to the program STRICTLY adherd.

I know all this may seem complicated with so much detail, but believe me, it’s worth your trouble, re-read ONCE and try to grasp and memorize the entire stage correctly. It is a lot more simple and well detailed than how the book put it specifically regarding the application of the program.

I hope this helps you guys.

—————– Overall ————-Terry J. Dubrow is legitmate and what we call “real deal”, hes really something. If you ever watch “the swan” from the reality television, he was part of that impressive transformation!

I’m sure if you put yourself into his hands, he will cure you, because he definitely knows how to do it correctly and forcing you into habit. It is not often his book that have issues, it’s the reader who have issues following through exactly his routines precisely. I don’t blame you guys for that, because sometimes hes not very clear on the actual routine, and it takes quite a few thinking and re-reading to grasp the program correctly. [At first I used it wrong for a long time, I used the G-acid both morning and night and boy was that a silly mistake]

Waste of time and money, because his application instruction is not very clear, but through many thorough reading and research it becomes clear, so dont assume his application instruction are clear, or you’ll make the mistake you wont want to make, wasting time and money and growing lack of confidence in a program that works of followed correctly and thoroughly. So I’m making it clear for you. So not everyone reads the same, secondly this book placed a lot of emphasis on the detailed information, the actual indication on the program is very short, but the explanation concerning acne is used to convince and motivate readers to follow through the plan. That is why I still recommend people to buy the book even if you know the “routines” precisely, because following through is a test of character and strong will plus commitment and dedication. If you arm yourself with the knowledge, you’ll gain confidence, therefore easier to follow through his program. It takes a lot of commiment. Sorry to say, If you see this Dr Dubrow, not everyone has that “excitement” or intense desire and dedication/trust necessary to successfully and effectively follow through your program. People get burnt out after each failed attempts, which I assume is quite a lot… So the actual performance of applying the materials listed in this book becomes a problem for a lot of people. The idea of putting a ice pack and running ice cube over your face is not a pleasant process for long-term. Not everyone likes that experience, especially if first one didn’t go right.

This book works on curing and eliminating existing acne. The trick is, do the other stuff he suggested to prevent new ones from formation. If you can keep yourself from formation, you will cure it. Formation is due to internal aspect of your body. It all depends on the stuff inside your bowel. Ever seen rotten food? Well it’s not surprising to get acne when your body cannot successfully eliminate those waste out of your system. What goes in needs to come out, in all parts. Most of the time, what goes in may not come out fully, only 30 percent. So make sure you work on that first, fixing your internal body.

So fellow friends, remember, the key is doing exactly on time and precisely, most importantly consistently. If you read to here, I thank you for reading my review, hope it is helpful to you, wish you the best and you deserve success. :)

Book promises -the end- of acne problems, even severe acne cases, I followed carefully and did not work for me.

The “solution of acne problems” proposed by this book are three basic procedures which are:

Salicilic acid based soap, Glycolic acid, and Benzoil peroxide products. And some tips -like use ice on affected areas- to avoid pimples inflamation

all this in the first and second chapters

The rest of the book is dedicated on how to keep a healty skin
(using minerals like zinc, antioxidants, and other things we know)

My advice is: save your time and your money

Good skincare information, but not a cure for acne.
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I am on week 6 of the program outlined in the book, and have seen minimal results. I have followed the steps exactly as outline in the book, and have used the products described. I have mild acne, so I dont see how I could be in the 5% of people this supposedly does not work for. I have less inflammation, but my pores are still very much clogged. It takes approx. 28 days for skin to turn over, so I plan to give the program 2 cycles before I give up. So far, the results are less than expected.

I am in the medical field, and what is presented in the book makes sense, however the actual program he outlines is not supported by scientific data. He explains the purpose of each product used, and backs its effectiveness up by mentioning scientific studies. The flaw is he supports each individual treatment with current data, but has no data supporting his combination of treatment. Therefore, one can only be skeptical of the programs true effectiveness. I admit, after reading the book I was convinced it would work, however, 6 weeks later I have shown little improvement.

I have suffered from adult acne for about 6 years, with the onset at about age 25. I never had teenage acne. My dermatologist says that I have mild acne, but lets face it, if you have acne it is anything but mild! I, like many others, have tried everything without success. I am certain that my acne is hormone related. If acne is hormone related, which in my opinion almost always is, topical medication will not change the levels of hormones your body produces. Therefore, topical medication may make acne better, but will never serve as a cure. My opinion, if you can afford it, see an endocrinologist that treats acne.

The book is a good read for understanding acne and how over the counter acne products work. Good skincare advice, but not a “cure” for acne.

    Believe the hype!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I read some of these reviews before throwing caution to the wind and ordering the book anyway. I’m 35, and have been suffering from embarrassing bouts of acne for more than twenty years. I was doubtful, but despite being let down by endless diets, soaps, and medicines through the years, I still held a hope that somebody might have figured this problem out.

Dr Dubrow has got the goods. For my first week on this program, my skin got as bad as it ever had, though in a slightly different way, and just in places where I’d had breakouts before (as if, even though seemingly healed, my skin still had to get rid of some old yuck under the surface). After that, though, everything cleared up once and for all. I can barely believe it! The book outlines a six-week program, but my acne was completely gone within three weeks. For the first time since childhood, I went through the holidays able to eat anything I wanted without any fear of repercussions to my skin.

I can’t say what a difference it’s made to my self-confidence, knowing that people are seeing me, and not my skin condition. If you’ve wrestled with acne, I heartily recommend that you read this book and follow the program outlined in it.

    It DOES work, but…
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
As the title suggests, it’s more of a “cure”– while acne needs to be healed AND controlled.

I’ve tried almost everything with differing results– Retin-A, oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, birth control pills, Proactive Solution, facials, vitamins, drinking gallons of water a day, cheap over the counter stuff, expensive products…

I’d been doing OK for the past year (sulfur-based AHA wash, Differen at night, and then either BP or salicylic acid with an oil-free SPF during the day) with only a couple of zits every so often. Until some recent stress. Then, my cheeks– which have always been acne free, since I break out on my T-zone– completely exploded into inflamed whitheads and red bumps. Nothing was working to decrease that acne, it was only getting worse. So, I tried this book.

Yes, in the beginning my skin did get dry, red, raw. I’d recommend, on top of spacing the regime out, to water down some non-comedegenic lotion/moisturizer and aply it after the last step at night (I used Curel). Doing this, my treatment took the full six weeks but my cheeks completely cleared!

That was about a month ago. I am still figuring out a regime, and have once again gotten pimples in some of my old areas (chin, forehead). The book is well written on how to heal current acne, but I found the section on KEEPING your skin clear much too vague. I’ve had trouble finding some of the products/ingredients he mentioned (a looong list of specific antioxidants, glycolic acid wash for acne prone skin). I’ve also had trouble doing the Cure on just the 3-4 pimples I have, while figuring out how to treat the rest of my face.

However, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has an entire area to treat, rather than just a spot or two to get rid of.

After acne for 17 years, I am now 97% acne free
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just like many of the reviewers here, I have tried EVERYTHING over the years, prescription medication (oral and topical), vitamins, Proactive, diet, 2 courses of acutane. Nothing worked, and my skin is very sensitive, and naturally very oily, and scars very easily. I bought this book over 1 year ago and finally understood the reasons behind how acne developed, and the need to use different products to control different phases of the acne cycle.

After putting the scientific information in this book together with other books, my routine is this:

Morning: Wash 1x with 2% Salicylic Wash – Oil Free Acne Wash, Neutrogena ($5), then wash again with Proactive’s 2.5% BP cleanser. Use Proactive’s toner and 2.5% BP treatment cream, then spf 30 sunscreen.

Evening: Wash 1x with Noxema Triple Clean Cleanser–has Triclosan ($5), then wash again with Glycolic Acid – 7% Glycolic Exfoliating Wash, DDF. ($27, Sephora). Then sometimes use a 2% hydroquinone product to slowly remove scars, but usually nothing else at night.

Washing my face twice morning and night with these products has eliminated the severe acne I had for 17 years. All of these products are good in themselves (Proactive is good with BP, because their delivery system gets the BP deep within the pores. The triclosan cleanser is good because it eliminates surface bacteria from the skin, glycolin acid is good because it lifts dead skin cells and rejuvenates skin.) But when I finally understood that they all had to work together to eliminate acne, and stuck to the program, is when I had amazing results. It has been about a year of 97% acne free.

I am using more products now to make it all work than I used to, but I am spending SOOOO much less $ than I used to on acne products it is amazing.

I have never written a review before. . . But this book has changed my life so much that I wanted to let you know what I do so hopefully it can help someone else.

I Didn’t Believe Anybody Could Help Me
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
When I first saw this book at the library, I thought, “Yeah, but not for me.” I struggled with acne as a pre-teen (12) and tried everything my pediatrician told me. Only “growing up” helped me. I got it back at age 40, so bad I wouldnt let my boyfriend see me in regular light (he said he didn’t care, but…). I checked the book out and by the second chapter, I went online and purchased the book for myself. I had to have it and I still swear by it. (His comment about “feeling your face every morning before getting out of bed” really hit me. I thought I was the only person that did that!)

He suggests 95% of the cases can be virtually cured. I thought surely I was in the 5%. Within TWO DAYS I saw improvement! Within two weeks, when I saw my family doctor for a general appointment, she didn’t understand why I was concerned about my now minimal acne, but recommended a dermatologist. By the time of my appointment with the derm., about six weeks into the program, I had no acne to show him. But he was happy to prescribe a $100 face wash. Forget it–I didn’t buy it.

Yes, it takes time every day. If you were in my position, and apparently many are, it’s worth it. In my case, after I was acne-free, I didn’t need to follow it daily. I found the amounts recommended most helpful…”twice the active ingredient” does not necessarily mean it will help twice as good. This was helpful news.

This book worked for me! One note, however, in my state (IN), you can’t get one of the components, glycolic acid, without a prescription. I got one from my family doc. She, thought his plan made sense. But I had to go to the hospital pharmacy because no local pharm had anything close, even with a script. It turned out I didn’t need it, but it was very inexpensive (about $20)for a prescription med. The important thing is to identify what kind of acne you have. I had two types but not all three, which is why I didn’t need the glycolic acid. That’s the trick and it explained why treatments as a child didn’t help–my pediatrician was only treating one. This book was a godsend for me! I still get an occasional small breakout, but the “plan” sets me back on track.

    A Worthy Book
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’m just getting into this book, and really, the whole routine makes a lot of sense. I can’t give a great testimony or anything, simply because I haven’t been on the program long enough to know if my skin is really responding well or not. But, I can say that after the first night’s treatment, my inflamation was noticably reduced.

While yeah, the routine with the ice, etc. is tedious and cold, and at first I felt sad about putting on medication and rinsing it off after a few minutes, it really seems smart. I’ve always had trouble with greasiness that comes along with acne meds like salicylic acid, etc. but with this method, I seem to get the benefits without the oil production.

I think some of what the author says is crock–your diet CAN be a huge part of acne, but most doctors seem to be unwilling to sell a healthy lifestyle. (Look at Dr. Perricone, he says you can treat your skin probs through a healthy diet, yes. But he also puts incredible importance upon his insanely priced skin care products.) I don’t think I’ll ever call this a miracle cure, even if this regimen does clear up my skin, because I think treating acne is a very individual thing dependant upon hormones and a million other things. I have PCOS and that greatly affects my skin, and I’m just trying to find something that will work for me.

When I have been on the program for the whole 6 weeks, I will return here with my experience.

But I wanted to tell anyone who is interested that I dont’s think it’s impossible to find an oil-free moisturizer with c ester, tocotrienol and alpha lipoic acid. Nutribiotic seemes to make a very fitting moisturizer, their 2-oz. Hydrating Facial Mist for $16.96 which you can view here: http://store.nutribiotic.com/pgi-productspec?1094

I hope that helps some folks.

The best book for Acne that one should get is “Clear Skin” by Dan Kern. That will clear up your face using simple techniques. it has been working for me, and it will work for you. Don’t bother with expensive proactiv, just try the methods in “Clear Skin” and you will save a lot of money. Thanks again to Dan, for his methods. I hope that more people know about this

    A “Cure” maybe…
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The beginning of this book is an excellent guide to skin, it’s function, and the many causes of acne. The protocol to “cure” acne is a 4-step program to address the 4 causes of acne as outlined in the book. While the authors claim that the products necessary for this regimen are relatively inexpensive, they still recommend certain products that I know are not merely “drugstore finds.” Some of these products are only available on the web or through a dermatologist, with a price tag to match!

I find the doctor’s research of his program thorough and well thought out. It sounds like it should work. Still, I am concerned about irritation from some of the products, yet nowhere does the book address this issue or what to do should it occur. The last part of the book reviews dietary supplements that can help a myriad of skin problems — again, more money to spend! While I feel that this book may help many people control their acne, I’m not convinced that it’s a cure.

This totally worked for me (LONG REVIEW)
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
[Please scroll down to the end of my review for drugstore products used]

Like many other reviewers, I had bad acne for quite a while (about 6 years for me, after age 18 or 19 it’s like my face just REVOLTED against me! Something to do with hormones, apparently). So let’s see, I tried about a year of Proactiv. It’s like they have some kind of a hold on you. It’s not working, but yet you keep using it. Finally cancelled that and went to see a dermatologist. First they had me on tetracycline, which worked like a charm, but then she took me off because you really shouldn’t just keep taking antibiotics. Then they put me on this expensive vitamin, and the whole time consultations aren’t free…….. I’ve also used up my share of OTC acne face products.

So (about a year ago) enter Dr. Dubrow :) I found his information on a website I was surfing and started on the program. Trust me, within one week, my face was clear!! Only down side was the burning AND peeling I got from using a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide product. I had heard I wasn’t supposed to use this (especially on Black skin that is more prone to staining), but since I already had it I decided to be stubborn. However, even though when I woke up in the morning, my skin would have peeled, by the time I did the morning wash (salicilic acid) and exfoliation (glycolic acid) and then used my oil-free SPF 15 moisturizer, it’s like nothing ever happened to my face.

The downsides of this program are, the consistency necessary for continued results. It’s almost like a diet. You start off all excited, but then your enthusiasm wears off. For me the cold got old FAST. I thought that since it was winter it was just too cold and I’d be more willing to do it in the summer, but I’m still not interested. I also get SOOO lazy and not do the nighttime treatment at all, no washing, nothing… because of the part where you have to run the ice cube over your face and then apply the BP that you’ve kept downstairs in the fridge (you have to) so you have to walk from your bathroom to the kitchen and ARRRRRRRRGHHH!!!! Can you tell I’m a little frustrated?!?! :-) So I stick to the morning treatment only and my face is still under control.

I also decided to adopt his vitamin regimen (which I DO call popping five or six pills everyday a downside), but guess what? If my face breaks out when I don’t have enough vits in my system, I figure I’ll keep taking the vits at least twice a week just to keep my WHOLE BODY healthy! I ditched the L-carnitine (expensive, didn’t see the results as far as fixing my scars), and Selenium (hurt my stomach), and haven’t been consistent with my Calcium (meaning I haven’t taken it in months), but the others are still holding down the fort!

In all, I’m really glad this book came into my life, I think I just might donate it to my local library… (as against selling it here for moolah.. he he :) ). I’d have to put my acne at 85% cured, but with the minimal effort that goes into doing this program, damn. Totally worth it. My cheeks that used to have the horendous break outs are also completely under control. I just get the occasional pimples on my face and they usually aren’t big at all. I’m so low maintenance that the only time I care is when my face is JUST HORRIBLE. So right now I’m happy.

His book did not really help me with dark spots. He says you should wait till you’ve been COMPLETELY acne free for a year before doing the peels and what not, but that just hasn’t happened yet. I’m not really getting any new spots, but I’m still waiting on a miracle for this one! Crazy diets don’t count, I’m not even going to bother trying.

I’m also a little peeved that he sells the products READILY available at drugstores on his website, instead of the maintenance anti-oxidant product he recommends. I’ve bought some so far, but they are pasty (as against liquid, moisturous and just awesome) on the face and clog my pores, or they are stinky, or they irritate my skin and make me scratch. I’m sure if Dr. Dubrow decided to compound the maintenace product, it would be gentle on sensitive skin and non-stinky (I just trust him that much). So Dr. Dubrow, if you’re reading this, take a break from liposuction on Hollywood butts and get to work!!! Thank you! :-)

    Products I use:

Purpose gentle cleansing Wash (gentle cleanser to be used before salicylic acid for Black skin, which has more “stratum corneum” crap to slough off before applying SA, read the book). 6 oz for $4.99

Neutrogena Oil-free acne wash (lotion, gel made my skin too oily): 6 oz for $4.97

Walgreens Alpha Hydroxy acid (“8% of a 70% solution glycolic acid”, but it works, so whatever! :-) . $5.99. 6 oz body lotion, or 4 oz face lotion. I’ve used both.

Neutrogena On-the-spot acne treatment, $4.97 or something for 0.75 oz, tinted or vanishing formula, I prefer vanishing ‘cos it’s a nighttime treatment, think pillows, but sometimes tinted is all they have in the store.

Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer + SPF 15 $10.97 for 4 oz, OR Clean and Clear morning glow oil free moisturizer + SPF 15, $5.99 for 4 oz

Edit: One year later, I must mention that I have gone off the Acne Cure in favor of Dan’s Clear Skin Regimen (google it). It has kept me clear with not nearly as much effort. However, I am now interested in trying some of the Acne Cure maintenance products suggested by other reviewers, maybe they will work?

In all, I feel Dr. Dubrow has been somewhat irresponsible in writing this book, because he sensationalized it. Promised a cure, but would only really detail the first six weeks, and then what the heck should you do afterwards? I have to say, I have been searching the market and still haven’t found those maintenance products he recommends! None that are readily available and non-irritating to acne skin, anyway. Right now I’m just trying to take a leap of faith to try some of the products others have been successful with (even though they don’t contain all three ingredients), and see if it works. It is just annoying to find a so-called cure, only to start the search for products all over again. Thumbs down, Dr. Dubrow.

First I will say I am a 26 year old woman, I’ve been on Dr

Dubrows acne cure programme for 8 weeks, and while my acne has lessened it hasn’t completely gone yet.

After a long, exhaustive search I found an antioxidant moisturizer that contains tocotrienol, vitamin c ester and alpha lipoic acid. Nutribiotics make an oil-free hydrating facial mist that contain all these ingredients (plus others), it is relatively inexpensive, can be purchased through amazon, and can be shipped worldwide.

Has worked for me -so far.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this book when my skin was particularly bad-I have had moderate acne since I was 13 and I am now 28. I was quite cynical and even before I got it home I thought I’d probably wasted my money.

I slowly started using the different products advised and my skin is now a lot better than I have seen it a while, with no spots! I have had similar results with antibiotics, and unfortunately the spots always came back eventually-so I hoped that the same thing doesn’t happen with this. But although Terry Dubrows book seems to hold simple advice, it makes perfect sense, and it really is worth trying.

I found the salycylic wash and BP easy to find in UK supermarkets or chemists, the glycolic acid product I could only get online. This is a bit pricey (I paid £25 for a 150ml bottle), but you only need to use it sparingly so I think it will last a while.

    Confusing Yet Easily Adaptable
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have been cursed with oily skin and been battling acne since my teens. I don’t have the kind of acne you’d see in those “before” photos in Proactiv pamphlets, but I did hate waking up to discover a giant whitehead or a red lump on my face. I had tried a number of remedies over the years before finding this book at my local library. The information itself is a little bit too in-depth, as other reviewers have noted, though it can be easily condensed and adapted without a chemistry degree.

My program, adapted from the routine contained in the book, is:

Wash with Neutrogena Rapid Clear oil eliminating foaming cleanser.

Wipe face with a Neutrogena Rapid Clear salicylic acid pad, allow face to dry.

Wipe face with Neutrogena Pore Refining toner.

Apply a thin layer of Zapzyt benzoyl peroxide gel.

The salicylic acid pad may not even be necessary, I’ve only begun using them as they were on sale at my local grocery and I thought, Why not?

This regimen has cleared up my face considerably. I am still waiting to eliminate the blackheads that have formed on my nose, hoping that this routine helps.

At first, I tried all the suggested products on the same day… bad decision… very harsh! HOWEVER, after my skin, which became irritated calmed down, I took a different approach. The book suggests doing things a little different order if the Benzoyl Peroxide was too rough.

Results: Fabulous! Try adding each product slowly. The book is excellent resource on acne, explaining explicit steps in how acne occurs and why the regimen works. Over the counter products, easy steps and beautiful results. Thanks, Dr. Dubrow!

I think this book is well written and informative. I finally understand why treatments like Proactiv didn’t seem to work (they only attack one part of the problem). I’ve been doing it for less than a week and I see results….no joke. There is good medical research and unlike some books they don’t endorse specific brands just levels of ingredients you need. It takes work but the beauty of it is that it does work!! For me, and I’m sure many acne sufferers, it is worth it. By the way, you can find less expensive formulations of the washes needed for the program. Buy the book if you want to learn how to get rid of acne once and for all.

Another good book is the Wrinkle Cure…it teaches you all about skin particularly what is needed for healthy skin. I found this info coupled with the acne cure to be very informative for nice skin.

This book is very helpful and definitely worth looking at. The program is cheap, easy to follow and makes sense. It can easily save someone with bad skin from years of pain and misery. Only negative is that it is poorly written and filled with more than a few contradictions (statements like “acne is not a hormonal disease”, etc.) Wish it had been written years ago, would have saved me from a lot of trouble.

    Cure for Acne
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This book is amazing, and I haven’t even tried the program yet! I plan to start within the next couple of days, though. The book, as another reviewer noted, was not very clear in regards to when to use the products (a.k.a. the order in which to apply them). The authors do not try to sell the reader any specific topical medicine and are very good at being unbiased as to what products to use. For example, you must use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (a.k.a. BP) which is very hard to find; however, you can use either Neutrogena On the Spot Acne Treatment or the benzoyl peroxide from http://www.acne.org (the acne.org BP cost exactly $25.25 for two bottles that last for well over a month). You also need to use 2.0% salicylic acid which I will be using the Zapzyt brand. Next, you need to buy glycolic acid. The product you buy must be between 8% and 10% glycolic acid, I will be using Walgreen’s Alpha Hydroxy Acid which sells for around six bucks. Walgreen’s Alpha Hydroxy Acid is 8% of a 70% solution of glycolic acid. Finally, you will need to buy a nice moisturizer with atleast an SPF 15. I will be using Purposes’s Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion.

The book continues to talk about the benefits of healthy skin, why the program works, and various vitamins and antioxidants you should take to maintain healthy skin. It claims that 95% of people who have acne will be completely cured within as little as 6 weeks. The other 5% will see a dramatic improvement and the book gives more steps to the program that will cure the remaining acne. If anyone would like to monitor the progress of someone using the acne cure program then please go to http://normalskin.blogspot.com to see how the program works for me. I hope that this review has helped people find the sometimes hard to find products needed on the program. If you have any doubt as to whether or not this program truly does work then atleast buy the book, check it out at the library, or check my blog to find out if it does work for some.

This book doesn’t promote any gimmicks or brands; it doesn’t try to sell you anything or put forth any radical approaches — and that is what make it so refreshing. The specific instructions he gives on skin care really do work and if followed specifically will help get rid of your acne relatively quickly. One thing I would recommend is Paula Begoun’s “Don’t go to the cosmetic counter without me” book, because she explains which products have enough ingredient (i.e. salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc.) combined with a low enough PH level (essential) to be effective.

I live in Japan and ordered all the required products online, for about $60 total. I’ve been following the program (more or less) for the past month; and it seems to be working. I am 22 years old and I thought I had cured my acne by taking accutane years ago when I was 16. My acne reappeared 3 years later not as worse but still bad and I started taking accutane for the second time which I don’t recommend to anybody unless your acne is Severe severe or cannot be cured by this program which is a small chance. My acne surprisingly reappeared once again. So as you can imagine my acne is not that severe but is very persistant. This program is working very well so far.

This program works as long as you follow it to the letter and if you buy the right acid concentrations, including the key steps that are the sun block of 15 or higher and the ice

The last step of that program tells you to use the ice packs and bp gel, and then leave the rest of bp gel on your face for the rest of the night, but how do you do if you wanna go out at night? well, what I did and has worked so far is to run the ice cubes over my face and then put your ice pack but do not put bp gel just to get rid of those inflammations. Do not do this all the time, though, since your bp is what kills the bacteria, you dont wanna go out all the time haha just every once in a while or every weekend. It is worthy to say no sometimes. Remember it only takes 6 weeks so do the sacrifice. Another and I think the most important thing is,you know, as this doctor explains that there are several types of acne. well, mine I think is psychological since I keep squeezing even though I know it worsens my acne. I hate those white heads but, indeed, what I am doing is prolonguing my situation, so extremely important that you don’t touch your face at all. Don’t get weak and start squeezing. they will go away and leaving a markless face if you follow the program.

I’ve been doing so for 2 weeks and my face has gotten way better. It looks different, it looks healthy.
